my CV for maurices that i wrote before realizing they wanted either my resume or a CV, and i thought my resume would be better.
Dear Hiring Manager at Maurices,
I hope this letter finds you well. I would like to start off by saying that it has been my dream to work in retail, specifically clothing retail, ever since I worked my first day at my first ever job slicing bagels and smearing them with slop. My name is Gianna Boccone, and I am a college student that lives in Fredonia full-time, so I won’t be going AWOL for a couple months each year. I dream of wearing fun outfits, or even just jeans, to go to work, not so that I could feel good out in the world, but so that I can show others in this small town that expression through fashion is not just a city girl’s game.
I have plenty of experience in customer service, considering that’s the only type of job I’ve had in my seven years of being in the workforce. I am ready for a change that will challenge me in new and different ways from my jobs in the past, and stimulate and motivate me in a way that the food service industry cannot. Working at BJ’s bar, I can say that the range of attitudes I would be confronted with each shift has prepared me for any customer-facing job from here on out. I could handle drunk and smarmy 6 '0 men; it would be a reprieve to handle women looking for a pair of jeans they feel attractive in. Not even a reprieve: a treat! I’ve purchased some great pieces from Maurices in the past, and for a little while Maurices was my own little secret. You could imagine my surprise when I saw the Tiffany blue logo in the Ollie’s parking lot.
It would be an honor to be a member of the Maurices experience, because my own experience in finding my personal style is very important to me. I abhor when people “don’t care” about fashion or claim that they “just don’t have an eye for style” when in reality, those things are made up by magazines and runways. I believe in authenticity and experimentation, and it is a belief that could get so many so far in their self discovery. I want to be just a small part in helping customers realize that.
Thank you for your time and attention. I hope to hear back from you soon!
Sincerely,
Gianna Boccone
